New Week New Info.

Before I delve into the hellstorm that was the Miami Budget Meeting I want to bring everyone up to speed on the news.
The City of Fort Lauderdale is drumming up the idea of axing FP&L. Ah the days of "Bob" from FP&L, those days are long gone and what we are left is a company that throws fundraisers for Commissioners like Rebeca Sosa (Thanks EyeOnMiami)
If the City of Miami had any money in its coffers this would be what to use it on.

Speaking of the City the Commission unanimously voted in support of a new no texting while driving in school zones. Personally I think this should be city wide. However the odd thing of the Herald report on this is "Joe Sanchez" is under bold, furthermore it seems to differentiate between a cell phone and a blackberry. What about the Iphone?
Apple probably paid him off or something......cursed Steve Jobs.

Budget Budget Budget.
The City of Hollywood has proposed the budget for this year with massive layoffs and limited cut to services, however just a couple of months ago they approved the new union contract. With no negations to salary or pensions.

Eerily similar.
So the question I leave you with today.
How did we get to where we are today in the City of Miami?
Mayor Diaz commented on how this bloated pensions are bleeding the City dry. But yet....how did we get here?
I will be investigating the Unions and their contracts soon.

Lets focus...

The week has started again with the usual madness that has plagued the City. It seems that the county, with their current budget is very similiar to the City. It is an out of focus lens. Instead of cutting his own budget and making "sacrifices" he cuts programs like the one hot meal a day for seniors, and more recently the 4-H program that is about to celebrate its Centennial (100 years).
Unlike the hot meal for the seniors 4-H is a little less obvious to its intentions. There purpose is to educate and teach children from 5-18 years old. They teach them leadership skills and go out camping. Kinda like the really cool camp that your parents never sent you to.
But wait there MORE!
Not only will Miami-Dade make sure there is no food for the elderly, no leadership skills to the underprivileged, he is also making sure the whole Cooperative Extension Service Division is axed as well!
What does the CESD do? Silly things like teaching people about conservation, planting trees, and why water is so important in Miami.

What I heard on the radio....

Earlier this morning I heard on the radio that there was an e-mail sent out from Mayor Alvarez to "people" to show up and occupy the seats inside the Commission chamber. As well as adding the "reserved" seats that you see in the photos. They have blue markings and are being occupied by the invisible people there. Which is ironic due to the fact all of the real invisible people screaming and protesting outside falls on deaf ears. Those double doors in County Hall are almost as good as the ones in the City.
I am sitting here, watching the Miami 21 meeting. And decided to make this blog. I have a lot of "info" and I hope everyone here will enjoy. We are a few different writers and together we will show you the truth....or at least what we have heard.
